Assignment 1 11/30/09
1) How does a mystery novel differ from a narrative?
A narritive differs from a mystery novel by the narrator in a narrative being a character while in a mystery novel the narator is just an over voice for the story.
2) How might the title be a clue to the story?
The title may be a clue to the story being about murder. The book could go as in one of those poems like 10 Little Dogs (by Owen Ward) where something happens to each one and they are no longer part of the story.

Assignment 2 12/2/09
On your student page ABOVE assignment #1, choose one of the following: suspense or foreshadowing.
1) Find four examples of suspense OR foreshadowing in chapter two. Write the exact wording from the book - that means type the sentences exactly as they are written.
The first obvious foreshadowing I saw was the poem of 10 Little Indians.
10 little Indian boys went out to dine; one choked his little self and then there were nine
9 little Indian boys sat up very late; one overslept himself and then there were eight
8 little Indian boys traveling in Devon; one said he'd stay there and then there were seven
7 little Indian boys chopping up sticks; one chopped himself in halves and then there were six
6 little Indian boys playing with a hive; a bumblebee stung one and then there were five
5 little Indian boys going in for law; one got in chancery and then there were four
4 little Indian boys going out to see; a red herring swallowed one and then there were three
3 little Indian boys walking in the zoo; a big bear hugged one and then there were two
2 little Indian boys sitting in the sun; one got frizzled up and then there was one
1 little Indian boy left all alone; he went and hanged himself and then there were none
The next I saw was Mr. and Mrs. Owen strangley disappear right when the guests arrive
"Mr.Owen, unfortunatley delayed, unable to get here till tommorrow, instructions, everything they wanted, if they would like to go to their rooms? Dinner would be at 8 o'clock."
The third forshadowing I saw was when Vera finished reading the poem
"The sea, so peaceful today, sometimes so cruel...The sea that dragged you down to its depths.Drowned...Found Drowned...Drowned at sea...Drowned, drowned, drowned."
The last that I saw was
"What fun! 10 little Indian boys of the nursery ryhme, I suppose."
2) In a well-written paragraph, explain why these sentences clearly show either suspense or foreshadowing.
In the poem of 10 liitle Indians I saw the foreshadowing of every person there is going to die. One by choking, one by oversleeping, one by wanting to stay back, one by chopping himself in halves, one by getting a fatal beesting, one by getting swallowed by a fish or false clue to something, one getting hugged by a bear, one by burning in the sun, and finaly the last one by hanging himself. I think Mr. and Mrs. Owen are late because they are the murderers. I think the foreshadowing behind Vera after reading the poem that was how she was going to die, by drowning. The foreshadowing of the ten little indians on the plate symbolyzed each person on the island and one was going to be taken off every time someone died.
Owen-
Good ideas, but not much attention to details. If you read your post out loud, or to yourself again, you probably will hear and see your many mistakes. Some sentences don't make sense because they are run-ons; others need help with spelling and grammar mistakes. Mrs. M
